Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Questions
What age groups do you serve?
We serve students from Kindergarten through Grade 10, offering programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels. Because we meet the child where they are at academically, the programming usually falls in that range (whether it be math or reading help needed).
What qualifications do your staff have?
Our instructors are highly qualified, with backgrounds in education and subject matter expertise. Many hold a bachelor of Education and other specialized training in their prospective areas.
What subject areas do you provide help with?
We specialize in math and reading, but also provide support in writing and spelling if desired.
Can I claim this on my taxes?
Tutoring services that are additional to the primary education of a person with a learning disability or an impairment in mental functions, and paid to a person in the business of providing these services to individuals who are not related to the person. A medical practitioner must certify in writing that these services are needed. (Tutoring Medical Expense definition on CRA site.)
Enrollment and Scheduling
How do I enroll my child?
You begin by booking a math or reading assessment online after creating an online profile. You will be asked to add a credit card on file. After the assessment, in collaboration with Bloom staff, you will choose which open day and time work for you and Bloom Learning will input the intervention spots for your child and ensure that spot is held for you by paying for the next four sessions with the credit card on file until you give a month's notice of stopping. Waitlists will be active when all intervention spots are filled.

NOTE: A non-refundable deposit of $120 is required to hold your spot over the summer and will be put toward September intervention.
Is there a minimum commitment required?
Yes. Upon enrollment in the intervention program, a minimum one-month commitment is required.
-
Monthly payments are processed automatically on the 1st of each month.
-
To discontinue services, a minimum of four weeks' notice is required. Without notice, families are responsible for the full payment of the upcoming four-week period.
Not ready to commit?
Assessment-only options are available without follow-up intervention. Contact us for more details.
Can I choose specific times and dates for sessions?
Yes, we offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your family’s needs. Sessions are available Monday-Thursday from 4:30pm-8:00pm as well as other new daytimes now available upon request. You can choose from a variety of regular 45 minute sessions (can book up to four times a week).

NOTE: You may be required to be on a waitlist if all intervention spots are taken.

SUMMER BOOKINGS: Summer months (August) are available to be booked online by parents around their summer schedule. These non-refundable summer sessions are pre-booked and paid at time of booking.
Book online yourself or contact Bloom to get help doing so.
Do you have a no-show policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the interventionists day that could have been filled by another client. Missed sessions for any reason will not be rescheduled or refunded. Due to the booked weekly schedule we will be unable to make up missed sessions.

*If your child’s interventionist is sick, a qualified educator will fill in for that session.

NOTE: You will only pre-pay for sessions offered (ex: not during Christmas break, spring break, holiday Mondays, etc. as we are open the same days as GP school calendars).
Programs and Curriculum
How is the program tailored to my child's needs?
Each program is fully personalized based on your child’s assessment results, as well as their individual strengths and areas for growth. This ensures targeted support that meets your child exactly where they are.

Progress and Results
When will I start seeing results?
While every student is different, many parents notice improvements within 8-12 weeks of consistent tutoring (based on 2 sessions a week).
Can parents observe sessions?
No, they can not directly observe but are welcome to stay in the building in the waiting room. Parents/guardians are free to leave and come back a few minutes before the session is over. If you wish to use 5-10 minutes of your child's intervention time to talk to the interventionist, simply ask and we will accommodate.
Is an assessment really necessary?
Yes. Our In-Depth Learning Assessment provides a complete picture of a student’s academic needs. Our battery of standardized and informal tests allows us to select and customize programs to best meet the needs of each individual student. The assessment also serves as a baseline from which to gauge future growth as well as a proper match with an interventionist. Results and recommendations are presented in a meeting directly following the assessment or soon after if desired.
The primary purpose of the assessment is to inform and guide programming at Bloom Learning Centre. As the results are intended for internal use only, formal copies will not be provided to parents or guardians. However, we will review the assessment results/findings and share relevant insights verbally following the evaluation.
What if we have already had a Psycho-Educational Assessment done?
You will still need to book an In-Depth Learning Assessment which includes both standardized and informal tests not included in a Psycho-Educational Assessment. We welcome you to bring a copy of your Psycho-Educational Assessment as it does provide useful information.
